Many people have become interested in learning about and enjoying olive oil tasting. This video will help you understand the wide range of aromas and tastes of olive oil. Each variety of oil has its own characteristic aroma. The term fruit is given to aromas that remind us of the scent of fresh olives from which the oil is made.

To best appreciate the oil first pour a small amount into a glass with a narrow opening which will retain the aromas. Warm it with your hands and breath in deeply and slowly to enable you to appreciate the aroma of the oil. Then sip a small quantity while taking in air at the same time, so that the oil is distributed throughout your mouth. Now let the olive oil slide back towards your throat. You will notice the sweetness on the tip of your tongue followed by the bitterness all along the tongue, especially at the back, and finally the bite in the throat.

Olive oil's characteristic bitter, fruity, and peppery elements can vary widely, depending on the olive variety, ripeness, and harvest. It's really a matter of what you personally like. Olive oil has become much like red wine in that it can be a connoisseur's thing once you get to a certain level.
